Kama Grott-Tomaszek

 

musician by passion and profession, oboist, owner of an independent record company SUBITO. She is also a manager in the domain of culture, organising a number of artistic events. Kama Grott completed musical studies in the class of professor Stanisław Malikowski at the Academy of Music in Warsaw and then she pursued her studies in London with Roy Carter – solo oboist of London Symphony Orchestra.

 

In 2006 Kama Grott signed an exclusive recording contract with Universal Music Polska. Her discography counts over a dozen of recordings, among which there are two solo projects: „Baroque Oboe Concertos” recorded with the Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jan Stanienda (2006) and „Romance. French Music for Oboe and Piano” recorded with Krzysztof Stanienda (2010). The Artist participates as session musician in recordings of the music for film and theatre, she worked, among others, with Krzesimir Dębski, Tadeusz Woźniak, Anna Maria Jopek and Marcin Kydryński. Kama is the laureate of international solo and chamber music competitions (II Prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Thessaloniki 2002, III Prize in Wind Instruments category in Citta di Padova Competition, Padua 2004). In the recognition of her artistic achievements, in 2004 Kama received a grant from Fundacja Kultury Polskiej.

 

The Artist is the founder and director of European Music Festival in Otwock, held every year since 2004. In 2007 she started an independent record label SUBITO, which aims at promoting young and talented artists. Label’s catalogue counts among others “Beethoven Violin Sonatas” of Kuba Jakowicz and Bartosz Bednarczyk, “Koncerty wiolonczelowe Haydna i Denisova” of Marcin Zdunik with the Wratislavia Chamber Orchestra conducted by Jan Stanienda (which received an Fryderyk 2010 Award for Phonographic Debut of the Year) and “Paderewski – works for piano solo” of Katarzyna Borek. In march 2009 Kama Grott received a distinction from British Council in International Young Creative Enterpreneures competition. Since 2012 together with fluitist Agata Igras-Sawicka Kama has been hosting a cycle of concerts “Artist in Residence” in Skwer in Warsaw – a project of Centrum Artystyczne Fabryka Trzciny.

 

She finds inspiration in travels, beautiful sounds, inspirational cinema as well as meeting people. She cares about honesty and straightforwardness, that is what she looks for in music and how she wants to create it.
